Former Beaver Linebacker Andy Darkins has been doing a stellar job as the Field Director on Rep. Arnie Roblan's campaign.

The Oregonian reported today that Andy Darkins has decided to end his college football career to pursue a career in politics and campaigns. Since June, Darkins has been serving as the Field Director for Rep. Arnie Roblan's re-election campaign in House District 9 (Coos Bay, North Bend, Reedsport, Florence).

Here's what Rep. Roblan had to say about Andy in the article:

Roblan, a Democrat from District 9, said he loves having a linebacker's mentality on his staff. "He's a great kid who works hard, and he understands politics," Roblan said.

"He's intense about everything he does, and once he commits to something, it's a total commitment, whether he's making phone calls to identify voters, or calling meetings to make sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to do."

Here's what Andy had to say in the article:

"I'm so grateful I got to play with such a great group of guys," he said. "It's tough (to give up football), but I think it was Bob Dylan who said if you're not constantly reinventing yourself, you're standing still. I just look at this as a segment of my life that happened to last three years."

Darkins said Roblan "is a pretty conservative democrat. I definitely diverge with him on certain things."

We are extremely lucky to have Andy Darkins on our team. He's proven himself to be one of the best field directors we have in the State. The talent level of the Roblan campaign team of Campaign Manager, Nick Batz and Darkins is one of the main reasons Rep. Arnie Roblan will be re-elected in November.
